Class of 2006

Our favourite songs. One per year.

Side A
(curated by Jon)

7. DragonForce –
"Through the Fire and Flames"

I love the histrionic bombast of My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade" and the dueling instrument (trumpet and sax) solos in Mark Ronson's cover of Radiohead's "Just (feat. Alex Greenwald)," but I love "Through the Fire and Flames" more for combining said two elements.

I love that it sounds like crack-fueled Power Ranger cosplay, and I love its absurd two-minute drill of dueling guitar solos.

The 'Force is strong with this one.

Side B
(curated by DJ Ben)

7. TV on the Radio – "Wolf Like Me"

Very few songs are more about fucking than this one (like, not even songs on a Big Black album).

Back then, I picked "What You Know" by T.I., and while it's a great song, it's not my #1 anymore. "Wolf Like Me" still resonates with that frenetic pace mixed with slow bits, and the video totally kicks ass.
