Les anglais se réveillent

I just finished reading Sewer, Gas and Electric: The Public Works Trilogy by Matt Ruff. To quote its paperback cover:

"A post-millennial spectacular—dizzyingly readable." — Thomas Pynchon

It's difficult to synopsize, but the story involves a negro holocaust; a mutant shark named after a German brand of beer; Disneyland; and the talking, holographic head of Ayn Rand inside a hurricane lamp.

What hope is, is deciding you'd rather be nonfictional than a corpse. [194]

I have now finished three novels by Matt Ruff this year, all mighty readable and creative. I admire his versatility.

On deck:

A look at the history of comedy, seen through the prism of Trailer Park Boys. [source]
