Passing on watching an acclaimed or intriguing television series because it may be cancelled is an idiotic stance, and sometimes a self-fulfilling one. Entertaining television is entertaining television, regardless of duration.

I wonder if the same people pass on seeing a film because it may not spawn sequels, or pass on listening to an album because the band may break up. Must bands similarly record four albums before they even consider sampling?

"I have Half-Life 2 episodes one and two on my computer but haven't played yet. Is it worth it to play them knowing the second ends with a cliffhanger?"
