Class of 2007

Our favourite songs. One per year.

Side A
(curated by Jon)

8. Frank Turner – "The Real Damage"

As someone who's partial to music, I appreciate song lyrics more as phonics than words. The lyrics to "The Real Damage," however, struck a chord with my quarter-life self, and still resonate.

Turner paints an autobiographical vignette about passing out on a Saturday night and waking up on Monday. I, in turn, admire his folk tableau as a proverb: Speak The Hangover, hear Leaving Las Vegas, see The Graduate.

Side B
(curated by DJ Ben)

8. UGK feat. Outkast –
"Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)"

"Int'l Player's Anthem" was one of the last major tracks that both Andre 3000 and Big Boi appeared on. From start to finish, the song feels like it belongs at a wedding. Every MC on the track just professes his love for a woman and desire to be monogamous in some way or another. It's incredibly romantic in a thug way.

Fucking love the Int'l Players Anthem. Check out the Hood Internet mashup of that with TV on The Radio if you thought it couldn't get any better.

I think DJ Ben is winning. Even with R Kelly in there.
