Taste Test: Sequelized Songs

Nas
A » "N.Y. State of Mind" (Illmatic, 1994)
B » "N.Y. State of Mind Pt. II" (I Am…, 1999)

I choose A.

A's instrumental is sick; B's instrumental is sick-ly.

Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Nate Dogg / Eminem, Dr. Dre
A » "Bitch Please" (No Limit Top Dogg, 1999)
B » "Bitch Please II" (The Marshall Mathers LP, 2000)

I choose B.

Dre took a mulligan and aced his second shot, replacing Snoop with Nate on chorus and tightening cadences.

Blink-182
A » "Anthem" (Enema of the State, 1999)
B » "Anthem Part Two" (Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, 2001)

I will be contrarian and choose A, caveman lyrics and all.

A sounds more anthemic to me – and less overproduced.

Metallica
A » "The Unforgiven" (The Black Album, 1991)
B » "The Unforgiven II" (ReLoad, 1997)
C » "The Unforgiven III" (Death Magnetic, 2008)

This is like the musical equivalent of the Skulls trilogy.

If I must choose, then A.

David Bowie
A » "Space Oddity" (Space Oddity, 1969)
B » "Ashes to Ashes" (Scary Monsters [and Super Creeps], 1980)

I choose B.

It's a grower, not a shower. The video, however, is indefensible.

yup. the first references the second while the 2nd references the 1st. same goes for queen 'bicycle race' and 'fat bottomed girls'. don't those count?
