Town With No Cheer

Today is the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, which spawned a Palme d'Or-winning film, an Oscar-winning documentary, and "the second worst (video) game of all time."

Columbine was also the reason I was not allowed to walk at my high school graduation over a year later.

We and other teachers feel unsafe and unwilling to attend a school function at which violence has been threatened.

Evidently, the perception of me among faculty was such that a(n admittedly ill-advised) line in my final column for the school paper about requesting and receiving the execution of an incompetent yearbook adviser by firing squad on graduation day (past tense) was deemed a serious (future) threat.

Imagine if Virginia Tech happened in 1999 instead of Columbine.

My Columbine day story:

I arrived home after school and turned on the telly to discover aerial coverage of some high school pre-empting The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

I was so pissed that I was missing Rosie.

Do you know what Eric Harris' favorite movie was? Event Horizon. [He] invited girls over to watch it at his parents' place. [source]

A regular Don Juan.
