Alternative Notion

Each year, Southern California radio behemoth KROQ holds a themed music festival (dubbed "Inland Invasion") in the oft-maligned Inland Empire.

In 2002, the theme was "25 Years of Punk."
THE SEX PISTOLS, The Offspring, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Blink 182, Pennywise, X, The Buzzcocks, New Found Glory, The Damned, Unwritten Law, The Vandals, GBH, The Circle Jerks, TSOL, The Adolescents, The Distillers

In 2003, the theme was "Flashback to the Future."
THE CURE, Duran Duran, Hot Hot Heat, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Violent Femmes, The Psychedelic Furs, Interpol, Marc Almond of Soft Cell, Fountains of Wayne, Bow Wow Wow, Dashboard Confessional, General Public, Berlin, Kings of Leon, Dramarama, Jet

In 2004, the theme was "Flashback to the Future II."
MORRISSEY, Siouxsie, Billy Idol, Franz Ferdinand, Devo, Tears For Fears, Ian Brown of the Stone Roses, The Killers, X, Muse, A Flock of Seagulls, Death Cab For Cutie, Missing Persons, The Walkmen

Live will be performing on September 17th at the KROQ Inland Invasion, to be held at Hyundai Pavilion at Glen Helen in Devore, California.

Okay, Live hasn't been relevant since 1997, leading me to believe that this year's theme will be "The Best Mix of the 90s and Today."

Consider the following:

Currently scheduled to play the Hyundai Pavilion on September 17? Oasis.

The Foo Fighters/Weezer fall tour lacks a Los Angeles-area date and jumps from Dallas on September 15 to San Diego on the 27th.

Garbage's tour down the west coast in September ends in San Francisco on the 10th, just shy of Los Angeles. The band then heads to Australia on the 21st.

Assuming my hypothesis is correct, who will headline?

I heard in June that Billy Corgan planned to reunite the Smashing Pumpkins…
